Farm Planning & Extension Farm
Planning work is being extended through the development of online
service utilities. A prototype online farm planning system was
established in 2008 by the Hungarian Agricultural Development
Foundation (AFA). This pilot scheme is known as AGRONET.
Currently
ADF, in collaboration with Navatec, are designing a new system based on
the lessons learned with the AGRONET site. The new system will make use
of new programming techniques, a different server technology and VCT
(Virtual Client Technology). The new system aims to be generic so as to
permit the development of input output data and gross margin estimates
specific to different price regimes, market conditions and bioclimates
within Europe.
Online systems, like any computer systems, are only useful if data
input is precise and representative of the options available to farmers
in a specific region. They are also only of use if those who can
benefit most from them have access to the Internet. Increasing numbers
of commercial farmers have PCs and Internet access. In the case of
remote regions or where farmers do not have access to the Internet such
systems still have an important role as a resource to extensions agents
or agricultural management advisers who help farmers plan their farm
production.

Extension work is now concentrated on assistance to individuals working
at a professional level on rural community project identification work
and this is mainly provide via email or telephone.
